Since July 1st, 2006, RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substance) directive has been implemented in European Unions and China. The regulatory specifically bans the usage of 6 hazardous substances including Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Hexavalent Chromium, Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) in all electronic products sold in above territories. Metrologic has responded to this regulatory actively by establishing a strict self-certification and testing system internally and externally. So far all Metrologic products manufactured in the US and China have become RoHS compliant.
For all the RoHS compliant products, a higher revision letter has been used on the scanner serial number label to make the indication (e.g. Voyager rev F vs. rev G). Also customers can recognize RoHS products by a green RoHS label on the scanner outside package. |

In 2001, the 2nd Research Institute of General Administration of Civil Aviation of China (CAAC) commissioned Metrologic to design an automated airport baggage sorting system. 6 months later, Metrologic successfully delivered the six-sided HoloTunnel scanning system and met various testing standards. So far the system has been successfully installed at China airports in Shenzhen, Guiyang, Chengdu and Chongqing.
The baggage sorting system consists of a six-sided scanning tunnel, host control system and the frames. The scanning tunnel includes eight IS8500 Holotrak scanners installed at the top, front, back, left, and right side of the system and one IS220 or iQ180 at the bottom. The bar code data read by each scanner is transmitted to the controller PC, while control signals and status message are sent to server through Ethernet.
In the past several years, China airport environment for automated baggage sorting system becomes increasingly harsher. The conveyor belt speed is increasing while the print quality of the bar code is worsening, while Metrologic has been able to meet customer demands by quickly adapting to the new requirements by providing high quality products and superior service and support. Now the first pass read rate of the system is 98% higher with the conveyor belt speed up to 1 meter per second.

1.What is EAS?
EAS is the short form for Electronic Article Surveillance. It is a common technology used in supermarkets or department store for anti-theft. If some customers intend to “take” the articles without paying at the checkout counters, when they pass through the gated exit, the EAS will make the system alarms.
2.How many types of EAS systems are there?
There are three types of EAS systems depending on the technology used: Radio Frequency (RF), Electromagnetic (EM) and Acousto-Magnetic (AM).
3.How EAS works in a bar code scanner?
A bar code scanner with EAS function usually has an antenna attached, which will be connected to the EAS deactivation device (usually called “black box”) at the checkout counter in the shop. Every anti-theft article has an EAS tag attached on them. When the customer takes the article to checkout counter, the capacitor inside of the EAS tag will be destroyed by the magnetic field generated by the black box, thus the alarm system will not be flagged when the customer passes the gated exit. In one word, the bar code reading and the EAS deactivation is achieved in one scan.
4.What Metrologic scanners have EAS function?
Metroloigc scanners with standard EAS function includes MS7320 InVista, MS7600 Horizon, MS2300 and MS2200 Stratos series. MS9540 Voyager and MS3780 Fusion optionally has EAS as well.
