It is known to us that when we buy a new car and get it registered, a lot of information about the car must be logged into the national Vehicle Management Systems, like the engine number, manufacturing date etc. Traditionally such information are all input by human hands, which is not only time-consuming, but also easy to make mistakes. To resolve this problem and improve automobile registration efficiency, since 2005 the Chinese government has requested all China automobile manufacturers to adopt QR barcode on the car certificate with necessary information encrypted. After that, the regional vehicle management offices are recommended to use 2D area imager to scan the QR code on the car certificate, to replace manual input of all the information into computer system. Vehicle registration efficiency is therefore greatly improved.
Because of the large information a QR code can encrypt, a 2D area imager must be able to scan fast enough to meet the application requirements. With its unique “FirstFlash” scanning technology and "Swift-decoder" software,MS1690 Focus was qualified and enlisted one of the recommended products after a full evaluation in field. Besides, there is a special software embedded in the national vehicle management system, each bar code reader must go through “identity validation” before any scanning. Metrologic successfully configured Focus to interface with this special software. for this application, each scanner is factory equipped with the configuration ready inside. after openning the package, the customer can simply “plug and play” and enjoy the scanning fun that Focus brings!

Q: How to choose the interface of a scanner?
A: The selection of a scanner interface is dependant on the host. Metrologic supports all the common interfaces for our products, including RS232, Keyboard Wedge emulation, Stand-Alone Keyboard emulation, USB and IBM.
To explain some interfaces that may not be clear to you
USB (Universal Serial Bus)
| Low Speed USB -- 1.5M bit/second
|
|
USB Keyboard Emulation - accept keyboard input like in “notepad”, no driver needed |
|
USB Serial Emulation - accept data from “Virtual Com Port”, driver needed and can be download from Metrologic website (MS1690 Focus need a special driver) |
| Full Speed USB - 12M bit/second |
Stand-Alone Keyboard Emulation - for host does not have an external keyboard like a laptop
BM - special interface on IBM POS machine
After connecting the scanner to the host, you need to configure the scanner to the appropriate interface to ensure correct communication. To do this, you can either use MetroSet2 configuration software or use configuration bar codes in MetroSelect manual, both can be downloaded for free at
